This week on Let’s Talk Cars, a very special treat, not just for our lucky test driver, but for you, the viewer! VehicleVoice correspondent David Barrett got a chance to take a Ferrari 360 Spyder on the Southern California test track at El Toro. When he caught his breath, he took out the new Corvette Z06 for a spin and a little comparison. I tried to hold the camera steady in the front seat. It was awesome, and you can experience it yourself right here! If you’re prone to motion sickness, take your medicine.

In the something a little bit tamer category, next we bring you a review of Ford’s Explorer Sport Trac, the most innovative member of the Explorer family.

And finally, we do a little reading. Yeah, I said reading. After all those engines revving and tires smoking, can you blame me? A new book by automotive luminaries Charlie Hughes and William Jeanes takes on the American Automotive Industry. It’s called Branding Iron and we got a chance to ask the authors about the book’s message and the future of such companies as Ford and GM.

The Corvette wins? This is a great example of GM marketing doing what it’s supposed to do. The Corvette raced at LeMans is NOT the car you can buy for the street.

The Corvette is one of the very best sports cars you can purchase that is MADE in the USA. It has a fabulous motor, sounds great, handles very well, and is a GREAT value. This was all communicated in the “non-test” at El Toro.

It’s because it is a great car that driving it back-to-back with the Ferrari is just something that cannot be passed up. And when such a back-to-back drive is conducted, the “showroom” Corvette performs as the video podcast describes it. It’s no Ferrari. That should be good news to owners of both cars. It is what it is. But, put the two street cars on any track (road course, oval, drag strip) and it doesn’t win. Overall, it isn’t supposed to.

When will people realize that more power doesn’t mean better! I remember GM putting out the firebird in the late 60s ( 380 some horsepower )the car was one of the worst pieces of engineering but… it was ” very powerful”
Comparing a Corvette to a Ferrari ( any Ferrari )is like comparing Joe’s painting to a Rembrant!

comparing the Corvette to the 360, no surprise he hammers the Corvette even though he starts out in the 360 saying its not a test. Put the two on the track (road course, oval, drag strip) and the Corvette wins. When will the media get it, its not about the interior its about the performance for the true sports car driver.
