I’ll stop driving a manual transmission car when they have to pry it from my cold dead hand. If they stop making new cars with a manual, I’ll buy something used.

Try texting on a cell phone while driving a manual transmission – or even talking, for those people who “choose” to hold a cell phone to their head while driving.

Aside from the enjoyment factor of manual transmissions, it can be argued that manual transmissions save lives by forcing people to pay attention to their driving. Perhaps the decline in the desire for manual transmissions stems more from the typical consumer who actually need one.

On a final note, I want to know, aside from these 20- and 30-somethings, etc., who all are these surveys being given to? Is it a fair pool of the population or are they just yuppies at a coffee shop? You know, the blue-collar worker has money, too.
