First Pictures: 2006 Dodge Challenger Concept
There is much hype this January about the Dodge Challenger concept, with conversations about the potential coupe’s marketability and the wisdom of reviving an icon seemingly everywhere, including on this blog.
Though the unveiling at the Detroit auto show is still a few days away, the first pictures have found their way into the public arena, so here they are available for VehicleVoice and AutoPacific to use. Has Chrysler’s Pacifica Studio succeeded in bringing back the 1970 Challenger as we wished it were, folding all the advances of the past twenty-five years into a package that still resonates with the 1970 look and feel?
The concept features a the SRT-8 425HP 6.1L Hemi V8 and chops six inches from the LX wheelbase to give us an idea of where the production car could go, though if approved it will be on the next iteration of the Dodge Magnum/Charger and Chrysler 300 platform.
The interior strives to also recreate the 1970s look, but while the gauge cluster adopts a look from the old days, it includes all the data that modern electronics can provide, including a telemetry gauge for tracking that last quarter-mile run!
Given all the buzz the Challenger has generated before anyone has even seen it in the tin, the coupe is on likely to get a resounding YES from showgoers.
