You don’t have to remember 1970 to know that the Boss 302 Mustang driven that year by Parnelli Jones was a thing of beauty. Jones ruled the the SCCA Trans Am Series that year, and competitors moved out of the way fast when the Grabber Orange mustang with the black center stripe appeared in their rearviews. He took home the SCCA championship that year, and cemented his Hall of Fame racing career.
Not long ago, Jones was trying to restore a 1970 Boss 302 when he had an idea. His friendship with Steve Saleen was decades old, and he lived just up the road from the Saleen production facility in Irvine, California. So he decided to pay Saleen a visit.
The result is a brand new, Saleen/Parnelli Jones Limited Edition Mustang. Serial number 01 went to Parnelli, but 499 other beauties went on sale to the public. David Barrett was on hand at the Saleen Retail Store in Southern California to witness Parnelli Jones picking up his new Mustang, and he brings you a first look at this piece of automotive art in orange and black.
