The Honda Fit arrives in dealers in April 2006 with Toyota's Yaris and Chevrolet's updated Aveo and Nissan's Versa all launched within 2006. Honda chose the North American International Auto Show to unveil their new Fit while Toyota launched the Yaris at the Los Angeles Auto Show , with Vehicle Voice and AutoPacific correspondents on hand. Elsewhere in the segment, Kia's Rio and Hyundai's Accent were all-new for the 2006MY. The oldest product in the segment is actually the Scion xA, and that model launched nationally for the 2004MY.
As more of these third party devices hit the market, manufacturers are also making it more difficult for in-dash ICE to be replaced. More and more, manufacturers are integrating the car's ICE into other functions, so the "radio" aspect is difficult to remove and replace.
The real risk relates to electricity itself. Hybrid batteries deliver up to 650 volts, enough to kill a human being. In addition, should the couplings for batteries become severed, free-flowing electricity can ignite leaking fuel or other combustibles, just as might occur if an electrical wire were to fall during a storm or other accident.
