Pontiac's Solstice makes you pay for the experience of top-down driving and its good looks with exceptionally poor visibility and a difficult-to-use package.

Suzuki's new XL7 is a better fit for this market than the prior model, or even than their SX4, a small crossover joining the range for 2007.

The GX6 G6 Coupe concept looks much like the 2005 SEMA G6 Performance Coupe concept, though wearing different (and better-looking) wheels. Where the SEMA concept was all about the looks, the 2006 GXP concept takes the look of the SEMA concept and adds a 270HP 3.9L V6 mated to a six-speed manual transmission. Air flow tricks include a ram air induction system with K&N air filter to a cat-back free-flowing exhaust.

If you're looking for a two-seat convertible in the $25,000 range, this spring you'll find a buyer's market, with the Saturn Sky, Pontiac Solstice, and Mazda MX-5 Miata to choose from. The Saturn is all new for the 2007 model year, but the Pontiac and Mazda are also very fresh. Both were fresh for the 2006 model year and have only been on sale since fall 2005. All three should offer an entertaining drive, modern conveniences, and good fuel economy from their four-cylinder powerplants.

Pontiac takes aim at the Honda S2000, Nissan 350Z, and Porsche Boxster with the Solstice GXP, offering 260HP, likely for significantly less cash outlay. Look for the GXP in dealers in fall 2006.
